The question
“What do you think of myco-futures.com?”, asked cold, with live search, to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity.
Before, 30 September 2026
Claude:
“The carbon figures are specific (13.01 kg CO₂e avoided per m² compared with bovine leather), but I couldn't find a source or methodology for them.”
The sentence that held buyers back: the figures had no source a buyer could check (“couldn't find a source or methodology”).
The change on myco-futures.com
Its homepage named the source of each carbon figure: a 2025 life-cycle assessment by UBC Sauder and a 2025 Oxia Initiative assessment.
The homepage block before:
- 13.01 kg CO₂e avoided per m² vs bovine leather
- 1.68 kg CO₂e avoided per m² vs PU synthetic leather
After, as the site prints it:
- 13.01 kg CO₂e avoided per m² vs bovine leather*
- 1.68 kg CO₂e avoided per m² vs PU synthetic leather**
- * from a 2025 LCA completed by UBC Saunder School of Business Centre for Climate and Business Solutions
- ** from a 2025 Oxia Initiative Carbon Impact Assessment
After, 2 October 2026
Claude, five minutes after the change went live:
“It also gives sources for its carbon claims (2025 assessments by UBC and Oxia).”
Each agent on the second ask:
- Claude: Picked up the change. Names both sources for the carbon figures.
- Perplexity: Answered from an older copy. Still quoted lines the site had removed.
- ChatGPT: Did not open the site. Read a news article instead, so had not seen the change.
- Gemini: Did not mention it. Raised other things, not the carbon figures.
What it shows, and what it does not
Claude reads a page when it answers, so it picked up the change first. ChatGPT had not opened the site on the second ask, Perplexity answered from an older copy, and Gemini raised other things. Those three had not yet re-read the page, so their answers say nothing either way about the change.
